Vincent Shaugnessy

Tribal Affiliation: Kwakiutl
Birthplace: Alert Bay
Birthdate: 1959

Vincent Shaughnessy has been carving for twenty-one years; carrying on a tradition of Kwakiutl art that his great grandfather, Arthur Shaughnessy possessed as a master carver. Vincent apprenticed under the highly respected Kwakwakw'wakw artist Tony Hunt Sr. at Raven Arts workshop in Victoria. He was one of eight carvers chosen to create the new ceremonial big house in Alert Bay, carving the totem poles, and painting the house front. He has helped produce three canoes and fourteen totem poles as well as countless masks, which are held in private collections internationally.
